“School-agnostic” recruiting picks up
pparently, major employers are realizing that attendance at an elite school is not a prerequisite to post-collegiate success. The most recent high-profile firm to recognize this is Goldman Sachs. The firm announced that it is discontinuing on-campus interviews for undergraduates, in a move to expand the pool of potential “best fits” for the firm. In the past, Goldman did its hiring through on-campus interviews at elite schools, effectively removing from consideration those who do not attend such schools. Going forward, the firm will use online interviews as its initial screening tool, reserving on-campus interviewing for MBA students.
“Having access to a broader funnel of candidates, and thinking differently about experience and background, is just a better investment,” says Russell Horwitz, co-chief operating officer of Goldman Sachs’ securities division.
