Happy FAFSA Day! Are you completing the FAFSA for the first time this year? While you’re waiting for the site to load, here are some resources that will help you get through it with a minimum of chaos and maximum of financial aid.

First things first: Do you have an FSA ID yet? If not, go to studentaid.gov right now and get it– one for you and one for your student. You can’t fill out the FAFSA without it.

Next, pull together your documents. You’ll need:

  • Driver’s licenses

  • 2020 tax return

  • 2020 W-2’s

  • Records of any untaxed income you received such as child support or untaxed alimony

  • Current balances of bank, brokerage and 529 accounts

  • Value of assets such as investment property
